About the Book
Our Poetry Book
A group of children aging 10-14 years, from a slum in Dhaka city tells this rare story that starts as they attend a poetry workshop. This experience inspires a love for poetry in the tender hearts and they strive to create poetic expressions. As the workshop ends, a dream pops up among them to publish a book of their own poems on the next Omor Ekushey Gronthomea, national book fair, a very important event in Bangladesh.
Their continued efforts gradually unfold through events despite the backdrop of their harsh reality. Their real-life struggle seems common but their individual imagination and expressions are very different and colorful that reflects on the words they create. It finally happens and the book opening at the book-fair makes a great impact on the children’s minds. They dare to plan for a poetry recitation program, first ever at their slum, to share their poems with fellow friends and the community on the first anniversary of the book opening.
